You ever have one of those moments where you look at the calendar, see a fresh month ahead, and think, “Alright… no more playing small”?
That’s exactly where I’m at right now.
August is here and not just any August — it’s Black-Owned Business Month.
If you know anything about me and blkphxaz.com, you know I live for this. This is literally what the whole platform was built on; to spotlight, celebrate, and uplift Black-owned businesses in Phoenix and the surrounding cities. From the coffee shops, to the stylists, boutiques and restaurants. Our city is full of brilliance, and I want to make sure it’s seen.
So here’s the thing: this year, I’m doing more than my usual.
I’m cranking up the consistency. I’m talking multiple posts a day, every day, all month long. Blog posts, Instagram highlights, stories, reels — the whole shebang. No more sitting on content or letting it collect dust in my drafts folder. If I’ve got a gem to share, it’s going up. Period.
Here’s the truth — I’ve met so many business owners who are out here pouring their heart, soul, and every last ounce of energy into their work. They deserve to be known. They deserve to be supported. They deserve to have people walk through their doors because they saw a post and thought, “Yeah, let me go check them out.” And if I can play even a small part in making that happen? Then you better believe I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.
I’m treating August like a community-wide block party… except instead of one street, we’re covering the entire Valley. So, if you’re following along, just know your feed is about to look like a parade of Black excellence. I’m posting unapologetically — this is the kind of flood I want to be guilty of.
And I don’t want to do it alone.
If you’ve got a favorite spot that deserves the spotlight, send me the details. If your cousin’s best friend’s mom just opened a business, send me the info. Even if you’re just a customer somewhere and you love the energy they bring — tell me about it. I’ll go, I’ll see, I’ll share.
Because August isn’t just about “awareness” — it’s about action. It’s about showing up loudly for our community, spending our dollars where they matter, and making sure that the success of these businesses becomes the norm, not the exception.
So here we go — August, we’re ready for you. Let’s make it a month to remember.
Whats the word?
